Science and technology are a driving force behind sustainable agriculture – and innovators across Canada are collaborating to develop solutions to the challenges farmers face, from climate change and labour shortages to lack of quality broadband in rural areas.
Northwest of Winnipeg, you’ll find Innovation Farms Powered by AgExpert, a 5,500-acre smart farm set established by Bioenterprise Canada collaborator EMILI (Enterprise Machine Intelligence Learning Initiative). It is Canada’s largest broad-acre (dedicated to large scale field crop production) smart farm, equipped with 47 sensors including weather stations, soil sensors, crop cameras and insect monitoring stations to provide vital insights into sustainability and on-farm productivity.
