New partnership supports food technology innovation at University of Manitoba

Bioenterprise Canada and Richardson Centre for Food Technology and Research sign agreement 

Guelph/Winnipeg, December 5 2022 – A newly signed partnership is expected to open new pathways to commercialization for food technology innovation in Canada. The University of Manitoba (UM), home of the Richardson Centre for Food Technology and Research, has joined Bioenterprise Canada, Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine, as a Knowledge and Development Partner.

The MOU will give researchers at the University access to food and agri-tech innovation and commercialization support services offered by Bioenterprise, as well as the Engine’s national network of experts, mentors and resources. In turn, the collaboration will help enable new research and innovation partnerships between Bioenterprise, Engine members and partners across Canada, and the University of Manitoba.

“We welcome the opportunity to expand our presence in Manitoba and in Western Canada through this new agreement with the University of Manitoba,” says Bioenterprise Canada CEO Dave Smardon. “The Richardson Centre has a well-deserved reputation for industry-leading research and innovation, and we look forward to exploring the new avenues of collaboration this partnership will bring.”

Other key benefits for the Richardson Centre include the opportunity to share and promote applied research with Bioenterprise Canada members across Canada and proactively pair University of Manitoba graduates with high quality, innovative businesses and organizations through the Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) program.
