Five Start-Ups Selected for Latest GreenShoots Cohort

Bioenterprise Canada, Innovacorp, and Nova Scotia Innovation Hub are announcing the companies selected for their latest GreenShoots program intake. Each start-up will receive up to $40,000 and business guidance from seasoned professionals to put their plans into action.

This is the fourth cohort for GreenShoots, an initiative launched last year to support early stage Nova Scotia companies focused on innovation in agriculture, food, bioproducts, clean technology, and related sectors.

Below are the five start-ups selected for GreenShoots this round. (The call for submissions was made in fall 2021.)

Bio-based colouring solutions for textiles and plastics to reduce industrial water pollution

Gaia Refinery – Qinhong (Tammy) Cai and Mike Parent – Sydney/Saint John – gaiarefinery.com – $40,000
Technology to capture CO2 from wind and convert it to high purity methane (natural gas)

Three Leaf Bio Science – John Dicks, Lord Abbey, Arvind Gunupuru, Hossam Elokda and Marc St-Onge – Halifax – $25,000
Biostimulants that increase crop yield, plant immunity and ROI for farmers

Quorum Inoculants – Jeff Norrie, Mohamed Hijri and Michel Hijri – Dartmouth – quoruminoculants.com – $25,000
Microbial formulations that increase plant health and yield

ZeroIN Foods – Edgar Sosa – Halifax – zerosugar.ca – $40,000
Sugar substitute using agricultural waste
