Four Start-Ups Selected for Latest GreenShoots Program

Guelph / Halifax, 15 July 2025 –  Bioenterprise Canada CorporationGreenspring Bioinnovation Hub and Invest Nova Scotia are announcing the companies selected for their latest GreenShoots program intake. Each start-up receives up to $40,000 and business guidance from seasoned professionals to put their plans into action.

This is the tenth cohort for GreenShoots, an initiative launched in 2020 to support early-stage Nova Scotia companies focused on innovation in agriculture, food, bioproducts, clean technology, and related sectors.

Below are the four start-ups selected for GreenShoots this round.

Biofect Innovations – Ralph Christian Delos Santos, Louis Lo, John Abousawanm, Teshager (Tesh) Kefale – Cape Breton 
Precision fermentation platform for sustainable, high-impact ingredients – starting with Brazzein

FinLeaf Technologies – Myrna Gillis – Brooklyn (NS) 
Aquaponic systems, phosphorus-rich biostimulant fertilizers, and specialized feed from recycled fish waste

pHathom Technologies – Andrew Ray, Kimberly Gilbert – Halifax 
Seawater-limestone process for permanent ocean storage of biogenic CO₂ as bicarbonate

SinkCo Labs – Viji Thomas, Victor Choquet – Cape Breton 
Residual biomass storage for coastal carbon removal and marine ecosystem resilience
