Guelph, 20 January 2025 – The Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre has become a partner in Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine. This means the Food Centre is now part of Bioenterprise Canada’s national network of advisors, partners, members, resources and mentors that collectively work together to advance agri-food innovation nation-wide.

The new partnership will open the Engine’s resources and services to the Food Centre and its members as well as connect food-focused entrepreneurs from across Canada to the Centre’s development, scale-up, manufacturing and commercialization programs.

“Thanks to our strength in agricultural production, Canada has tremendous opportunities to develop innovation food products and ingredients that will meet the needs to consumers today and tomorrow, both here and abroad,” says Dave Smardon, Bioenterprise CEO. “We welcome the opportunity to work with the Food Centre and getting to know its members, partners and clients.”

The Food Centre is a not-for-profit contract research, manufacturing and incubation organization offering support to agri-food companies from ideation to commercialization. This includes product development, ingredient evaluation, technical innovation, co-manufacturing, interim processing, extrusion, fermentation and bioengineering, food safety training, education, and small business development.

“We chose to partner with Bioenterprise because of its national and international network of experts, mentors, funders, and industry partners,” says Mehmet Tulbek, Food Centre President. “This partnership aligns with our goal of helping start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises scale-up in the agricultural and food biotech sectors.”
