Five Nova Scotia Start-Ups Selected for Latest GreenShoots Cohort

Guelph/Halifax, 6 September 2022 – Bioenterprise Canada Corporation, Innovacorp, and Nova Scotia Innovation Hub are announcing the companies selected for their latest GreenShoots program intake. Each start-up will receive up to $40,000 and business guidance from seasoned professionals to put their plans into action.

This is the fifth cohort for GreenShoots, an initiative launched in 2020 to support early-stage Nova Scotia companies focused on innovation in agriculture, food, bioproducts, clean technology, and related sectors.

Below are the five start-ups selected for GreenShoots this round.

Dispersa – Nivatha Balendra – Sydney/Montreal – $40,000
Biosurfactants derived from food waste (surfactants are the active compounds in many everyday products like detergents, creams and hand soaps)

Earthli – David Giffin, Jack MacDonald, Larry Burke – Windsor – $30,000
Plant-based protein products from hemp sources

Foodimprover – Sean Myles – Wolfville – $20,000
Gene-editing technology to breed the apple of tomorrow

GreenSage – Brad Saville, Michael Berry – Sydney/Toronto – $40,000
Natural alternative to antibiotics derived from coconut residues

INTAG International – Allen Tait, Chris Nguyen, Paul Nickerson – Sydney – $40,000
Technology to convert biological waste from fish and other animals into fertilizer
