Guelph, ON (January 15, 2026) – Bioenterprise Canada is pleased to announce the successful applicants for round two of the Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program (SGAP). Twenty (20) food and agri-food technology businesses in southern Ontario have been selected to partner with organizations that will address their sustainable growth and adoption needs through clean technology adoption and sustainability process enhancements. These projects will help to accelerate environmentally conscious business growth and the transition to a green economy in southern Ontario.
The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario(FedDev Ontario), is supporting Bioenterprise with a $5.95-million investment to deliver SGAP. Recipients will receive up to $100,000 in matching non-repayable, project-based contributions to embrace more efficient solutions that will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
“Canada’s future is being built in places like southern Ontario where innovation meets sustainability. The Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program is more than funding; it is a catalyst for transformation,” said the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “By helping 20 agri-food businesses adopt clean technologies we are building a stronger and greener economy that positions Canada as a global leader in sustainable growth. Investing in our entrepreneurs and modernizing our industries will ensure that Canadian innovation drives prosperity for generations to come.”
“Guelph and southern Ontario are leaders in agri-food innovation, and the Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program helps our local businesses embrace cleaner, greener practices,” said Dominique O’Rourke, Member of Parliament for Guelph. “By supporting entrepreneurs here at home, we’re reducing emissions, creating jobs, and building a stronger, more sustainable economy for our communities and for Canada.”
“Moving ground-breaking innovation into businesses is always a challenge. In some cases it involves risks, specialized knowledge and the expertise to implement such innovations. The Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program is designed specifically for this, to make innovation adoption a smooth transition to increasing productivity, process efficiencies and ultimately building competitiveness. The 20 successful applicants have the opportunity to move the innovation adoption bar to new heights, and in doing so, will provide a pathway for others in their industry,” says Dave Smardon, CEO at Bioenterprise.
As Bioenterprise Canada expands its national membership program, Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine, collaborative initiatives like SGAP, offered across southern Ontario, strengthen the connection between industry and access to the resources needed to develop and scale innovative technologies. SGAP connects organizations with proven clean technologies and solutions to businesses seeking to adopt greener and more sustainable practices. This program encourages industry collaboration, modernization, and expansion, while helping to reduce the risk of adopting more forward-thinking solutions that will benefit the sector’s carbon footprint.
