Bioenterprise Canada Announces Round 1 Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program Recipients

Guelph, ON (June 10, 2025) – Bioenterprise Canada Corporation is pleased to announce the round one Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program (SGAP) recipients. Fifteen (15) food and agri-technology businesses in southern Ontario have been awarded funding to partner with organizations that will address their sustainable growth and adoption needs through clean technology adoption and sustainability process enhancements. These projects will help to accelerate environmentally conscious business growth and the transition to a green economy in southern Ontario.

The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario(FedDev Ontario), is supporting Bioenterprise with a $5.95-million Government of Canada investment to deliver SGAP. Recipients receive from $40,000 up to $100,000 in non-repayable project-based contributions to embrace more efficient solutions that will reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

“Congratulations to the round one Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program recipients,” said the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Bioenterprise Canada plays a vital role in supporting Canada’s agri-food sector by delivering the innovative programming, tools, and resources that Canadian companies need to grow and compete. In challenging economic times, it’s more important than ever to back the businesses that feed our communities and drive sustainable growth. Our government is proud to support the success of Canadian agri-food companies as they adopt greener practices and build a strong, resilient future for our country.”

“Many of us have never experienced the political and economic uncertainties are we are currently facing. The recent tariffs are bringing new and significant challenges to Canada’s food and agriculture sectors. These challenges are causing businesses to aggressively seek ways to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and remain globally competitive under a tariff environment.  As businesses strive to remain competitive, innovations and their adoption can play a major role in cost reduction and increased efficiency.  More than ever, programs like the Sustainable Growth and Adoption Program can be highly impactful in driving long-term competitiveness of our agriculture and food sectors.” says Dave Smardon, CEO at Bioenterprise.

As Bioenterprise Canada expands its national membership program, Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine, collaborative initiatives like SGAP, offered across southern Ontario, strengthen the connection between industry and funding. SGAP connects organizations with proven clean technologies and solutions to businesses seeking to adopt greener and more sustainable practices. This program encourages industry collaboration, modernization, and expansion, while helping to reduce the risk of adopting more forward-thinking solutions that will benefit the sector’s carbon footprint.
