Carol Culhane, Advisor, Regulatory
Carol Culhane, PHEc, MBA, is President of International Food Focus Ltd., a food industry analysis and business development firm that provides marketplace validation and regulatory compliance services to the food and allied industries. The firm’s clients are located in Canada, the US and the EU and comprise both large and small organizations within government, private industry, academic, healthcare, media, not-for-profit organizations, and, the legal and judicial sectors.
Carol is a Professional Home Economist and holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa and a Certificate in International Food Law from Michigan State University. In addition to providing organizations with path- finding insight and strategic recommendations, Carol serves as an active member for associations at the trade, professional and community levels. She is a past President of the Ontario Home Economics Association, currently chairs the Functional Food Divison of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, and is a member of the Editorial Board of Food in Canada.
Her contribution to the food industry and community was recognized in June 2000 when she was awarded the "Women in Pursuit of Excellence - Entrepreneur of the Year 1999" by Women in Food Industry Management. In 2002, Carol was selected, through peer review and recognition, as one of 24 global experts qualified to participate in a worldwide post-marketing surveillance of the safety of genetically-modified food, should the need ever arise. Carol is the only private-sector member of the seven Canadians deemed to have the expertise and integrity to assume such a task. Her leadership skills were recognized in 2011 when she was requested to serve as a University of Ottawa, Telfer School of Management Alumni Leader.
Bioenterprise calls on Carol's regulatory compliance and commercialization expertise at the onset of project assessment. Team members are advised of the nature, extent and estimated cost of regulatory requirements of the proposed project, expressed through the lens of Carol's extensive hands-on business background in the agri-food industry.
